You utter twits! Why do you stamp your website address in an obscure corner of your C’mas card and wait until I go through the pile with said C’mas card at the end of Jan? What a great site! I cannot, however, believe that you would consign coriander to the dishes of Beelzebub…
Hello Teeenzzz
You must be a friend of my fellow blogger. I deduce this because (a) it was she who put our address in an obscure corner of her christmas cards, and (b) I don’t have any friends.
Sorry, but I can’t work out who you are from your cutting-edge cybername.
Whoever you are, I am delighted you like the site. You have swollen our readership by 25%.
I’ll get D to post a more informed comment.
By the way, a rectangle has only 4 corners – what criteria are you using when ranking them in order of obscurity?
All the best
R

Ah, hello Tina, for that is you. How’s the T-Shirt business going?
R

I have now forensically examined your C’mas card and found that the yumblog url was not in fact in any corner, but in the middle, slightly elevated, and upside down on the flap that is not the one with the Christmas greeting. I feel this location very much warrants the description ‘obscure’. Luckily, this also neatly avoids the necessity for ranking the corners.
By the way, wise move on making this site mostly fish and veg. Your co-habitee has been known to source scrawny blue chickens from rather dubious ‘outlets’…
CSI New Cross.
As far as I’m aware the chicken thing no longer happens although who knows what she gets up to when I am asleep.
I would say:
1. Top right
2. Top left
3. Bottom right
4. Bottom left
5. In the middle, slightly elevated, and upside down
R
I love Ian and he’s very upset about your criticism of coriander. We both think it wonderful and one of god’s most imaginative creations, a close second to Swedish blonds (although I share your view of pears). Must dash, eating mushrooms.
No updates for a whole month? Have you taken up stamp collecting instead?
Hi Tina
Someone who cares.
There are a stash of new posts just waiting for D to correct the spelling, check the grammar, and generally make them look like they were written by someone half literate.
And we’ve been on holiday.
And collecting stamps.
Best

I do enjoy yumblog somewhat chronic.
Fantastic, amazing, breath of fresh air… I have been looking for such a website on the interweb for yonks.
Keep up the great work.
All the best for 2009 (I’m sure it won’t be as bad as you lead article suggests)
Scott from Scotland
thanks to B3TA for the headsup
Hi Scott from Scotland, thanks for the kind words.
Good to hear someone still using the under-rated word ‘yonks’.
All the best to you too.
R
Hi Richard,
I’ve been reading your site since it was mentioned on b3TA, and particularly like the yuckblog section!
Today I made, using a shwartz mix (I know, but I was weak at the time) creamy garlic mushrooms. I obviously tweaked the ingredients (extra garlic, butter rather than oil, and simmering longer than recommended. Family was pleased, but I thought it tasted a bit `tinny.` Could you possibly provide a similar recipe which would make me happy…
I realise that there are dozens of recipes out there, but I would like to see a packet-mix versus real recipe showdown, done in your inimitable styleE!
Cheers!
Afternoon Yumblog

Are you guys watching Great British Menu?
I take it you are not then……. would you have answered if my name was Mr Oliver? he seemed to get a quick response.
Hi Scott
A well deserved virtual slap on the wrist there … besides we’ve changed horribly since we’ve started hanging out with J’me and his exciting celebrity chums.
As for watching the Great British Menu. No. I’ve seen it a few times but found it a bit too … er … ‘BBC’. You a fan?

The link below will, I hope, provoke a response that is:
a: Cynical
b: Cynical with a flavoursome foodie twist
c: Too tempting and will make you move to Somerset (assuming you don’t already live in Somerset – It’s raining in Somerset right now, so don’t hurry)
http://www.bathandwest.com/glutton-nourishment/122/
I am contacting you regarding a new campaign which launches today called ‘Who gets the tip?’ , its aim being that businesses such as restaurants/pubs/cafes or other places where you tip, are more transparent with their staff and customers on how those tips are divided up.
If there’s no tipping policy displayed we want consumers to start asking ‘Who gets the tip?’
We’d be really keen for you to support this campaign by including it in your blog or by embedding our ‘Who gets the tip?’ badge on your site. This can be easily downloaded from the website, or we can send you the information.
All establishments that upload their tipping policy on our site will be plotted on a map, and customers are then able to log on to find out their procedure.
This campaign can be followed on Facebook and Twitter and we’ve got plenty of materials that might be of interest to you including research on tipping attitudes, a history of tipping timeline, quotes from celebrity chefs etc..
We would love to hear about any of your views and experiences or your thoughts on the site, if you think it needs more info etc.
For full information see http://www.whogetsthetip.co.uk or contact me directly.
Hi Richard,
Hope you are well. There is a new bar/restaurant call Platform that offers an interesting ‘Gate to Plate’ dining experience and I would like to invite you for our launch party. Is this something that would interest you?
Please email me at kathryn@handmade.uk.com and I could send you further information [invitation, menu, etc].
I hope to hear from you soon!
Kind Regards,
Kathryn Kee
I just wanted to tell you how much I love your blog and about an opportunity I’m working on with Team Wholegrain (http://www.wholegrain.co.uk/) that I’d love your feedback on.
Team Wholegrain are potentially planning a fun competition designed to bring more wholegrain into everyone’s lives. We’re looking for people to design recipes using wholegrain in the ingredients list and then having people vote on their favourite dish. The wholegrain can come from any source as long as it’s an actual wholegrain. The Team Wholegrain website features a list of Wholegrains in the site to help people determine what they are. Submission would be in the form of a written recipe, photo with recipe or video taking potential chefs through the cooking process. We would then upload the recipes onto the Team Wholegrain website allowing visitors to vote for the recipes they like best.
Our end goal is to show that wholegrain doesn’t just have to be eaten at breakfast in cereals and breads. Instead, it can be incoporated into almost any meal. As you may or may not know, it is recommended that people eat a minimum of three servings of whole grain per day. Yet, most Brits barely eat that in a single week!
The winner of the best recipe would be given a free trip for two to enjoy a cooking course at Lesley Walters’ cooking school in Dorset for a weekend.
Can you let me know if this is something you would be interested in getting involved with? If so, please do let me know and if we move forward with this opportunity I will be sure to contact you to send you details.
P.S. I’m going to give your gently spiced bean and prawn soup a try next week. Does it mean I’m cheating if I use my new soupmaker? Thanks for sharing the recipe!!
Best,

Greetings Yumbloggers,
I’m probably not the first person to send this but as the saying goes, I saw this and thought of you:
Hi Scoots
Many thanks for thinking of us… it’s excellent. You were the first, but we had already found the link on B3ta.
This is over a year old and has had more than a million views, so you’ve probably seen it … but when I saw it, etc.
All the best

Hi,
I hope you’re having a great week! I helped build an infographic about kitchen safety and thought you might like to use it on Yum Blog. Here’s the link: http://www.jesrestaurantequipment.com/jesrestaurantequipmentblog/save-a-finger-share-this-infographic-with-your-friends/
There’s code at the bottom that makes it easy to post, but if you have any questions, let me know and I’ll try to help.
Thanks!

Hi Richard,
We run a drinks club called Thirstcard, a beverage discount card that gives you up to 50% off drinks at bars, pubs, clubs and coffee shops.
I am writing because we have a number of very nice places participating in the Farringdon area. For example, our members can get 50% off tea and coffee all year round at Dose Espresso, a coffee shop on Long Lane.
If you’d like to offer your readers 20% off our usual price then please let me know at henry@thirstcard.co.uk. We’d be happy to provide you with a discount code that you can give to your readers.
All the best for now
Henry
